You can talk about anything from movies, television shows, anime or video games.

I just finished reading the Hobbit, by J.R.R Tolkien...and I have to say, I'm rather disappointed in the movie now. Don't get me wrong, the movie is really good in its own right...but as with most books that have been turned into films, a lot of details were left out, or changed....
Has anyone else read the book, or seen the movie?

Personally I haven't read or seen the movie, but I find that when they make movie adaptations of books. They generally don't put a lot of detail into them, which is wrong because I know for those movies including Harry Potter thy were already so long. So I don't really see the problem with adding a little bit more detail to it already. The one I'm most disappointed in was Resident Evil and its franchise. Now here's the link if you don't know what Resident Evil is about, m.imdb.com/title/tt0120804/. But if you played the game then you would know, that they completely flipped the story line, which wasn't to to bad but still the game scares the bageeguss out of me. Although when I saw the movie, I was just like what f#*k is this? {sorry if I trailed off topic}

I have not played the games, I have seen the movies though. I did try playing one of the games, but I just found it to difficult to get into. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's a great game. I just couldn't get in to it. So, only knowing the movie franchise, I have to say I actually like the movies.
But back to the books turning into movies thing. I completely agree. Who cares if the movie is already long? Just add the detail you need and be done with it. Personally, I would love to have a movie that actually sticks to the book. But with the Hobbit, they didn't just leave out details...they changed things as well. Not to mention, they added in a scene that wasn't even in the book.

That irks me to no end, it's like please don't change something that people love. In the end it may turn out to be good, but at the same time you're drawing crowds in under false pretenses.

I have to agree with you. Don't lie about the movie just to sell tickets. The movie should have to get by on its own merit. If the directors want to cut corners and everything on the film, and completely disregard the books, which the authors took the time to write, then their movie isn't going to do as good as they think. Especially if people actually read the books before hand, or even afterward. Really, I was a quarter of the way through reading the Hobbit when I went to see the movie, and I was absolutely disappointed when I finished the book, because the first movie has almost nothing to do with the book. Like....out of the whole movie, I think maybe 20-30% of it was actually accurate.
And this isn't the only movie series I'm disappointed in. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Harry Potter, Twilight (the books honestly weren't all that horrible...the movies however...where very poorly done), and I'm sure the list goes on..I just can't think of any more right now. But seriously, I think that if they can't stick to the books, they shouldn't be making movies out of them.

The Bourne Series was another one that I was slightly jaded about, there was Eragon and Ink Heart. Then there was Jurassic Park.... I loved the first movie, which I have to say was the best. Yet after reading the book I was kind of let down, which is pretty said seeing as how hard they worked back then.

I'm going to jump in and say, that I actually stopped reading Harry Potter because I was disappointed in the films. I still have yet to see the last few movies and probably plan never to watch them, I also am very glad that I never read the Twilight series. After I watched the movies I was just like W.T.F!!! Hollywood is all about the money and seeing who has the biggest balls, it's like they don't really make the effort into putting in any real thought behind some movies.

Eragon, and Inkheart were two other ones I was thinking of, but couldn't seem to remember. I still have to finish the third and fourth books of Eragon. Devereux, I would definitely recommend you finish reading the Harry Potter books. I know the movies have ruined it for you, but you won't be disappointed in the books. I know it's hard to get through books once you've seen the movies, which is why I try to read the books first, but...I can guarantee you, they won't disappoint. You just have to try to get over the impression the movies gave you, and work through the books.
And like I said, the Twilight books weren't all that bad, but everyone has their opinions. I know quite a few people who detest Twilight with a passion, and refuse to even look at the books. Then there are people who hate Stephanie Meyer just because she wrote Twilight. One book, I would highly recommend anyone from Dream Escape read is The Host. It is by Stephanie Meyer, but it is extremely well done. Better than the Twilight series, in my opinion.
One movie I am at least partially impressed with, is the Alice in Wonderland franchise. All the movies I've seen, that were created for that franchise were amazing. I am thoroughly impressed by Tim Burton's edition, because I believe he is the first one to incorporate little pieces from Through the Looking Glass. The quarrel between the White Queen, and the Red Queen is, I think the only bit...if I'm not mistaken, but he also mixes the Queen of Hearts with the Red Queen, which..by the way, are two very different characters.

I agree with you on that, Alice in Wonderland was very well done.
I know this is straying away from the topic, but am I the only one that kind of hates it when filmmakers decide to make sequels to movies that need no freaking sequel?
